Junko Furuta- a horrific true story

I was just reading wiki and this article shocked me to the core, who am I to think that my life is tough??I literally started crying reading about the various tortures she had to go through. I don’t think even if the perpetrators are caught today and killed in the exact same manner it would make any difference! I hope death has finally brought her some solace. If she  managed to make out alive after suffering like that, i can’t possibly imagine how her life must have had become. Where is our world leading to? I who was just 2 years old during this incident  and was in my own little world with my parents around me, while she was going through THIS??!!! Since this story is getting resurfaced after almost 20 years, the fact remains that her assaults and murderers are still alive and lurking somewhere free. If such a brutal incident can happen to some one  2 decades ago, think what is happening today? How many junko’s are suffering right now without our knowledge? If action is not taken against these predators, many more mothers will return to an empty cradle.

Source Wikipedia:

Concrete-encased high school girl murder (女子高生コンクリート詰め殺人事件, Joshikōsei konkurīto-zume satsujin-jiken) was a 1988-89 incident in which a Japanese girl, Junko Furuta (古田順子, Furuta Junko), 16 at that time, was murdered. This incident has a high level of notoriety in Japan.

The crime

In November 1988, Boy A (then 18), Boy B (Jo Kamisaku, then 17; Kamisaku was a new family name he took after being released from prison ), Boy C (then 16) and Boy D (then 17) from Tokyoabducted and held Furuta, a second year high school (grade 11) student from Saitama Prefecture in Misato, for 44 days. They kept her captive in the house owned by the parents of Boy C.

To forestall a manhunt, Boy A coerced Furuta into calling her own parents and telling them that she had run away from home, but was with “a friend” and was not in danger. He also browbeather into posing as one of the boys’ girlfriends when the parents of the house where she was held were around, but when it became clear that the parents would not call the police, he dropped this pretext. Furuta tried to escape several times, begging the parents more than once to help her, but they did nothing, apparently out of fear that Boy A would hurt them. Boy A was at the time a low-level yakuza leader and had bragged that he could use his connections to kill anyone who interfered.

According to their statements at their trial, the four of them raped her, beat her with metal rods and golf clubs, introduced foreign objects including a light bulb into her vagina, made her eat cockroaches and drink her own urine, inserted fireworksinto her anus and set them off, forced Furuta to masturbate, cut her nipple with pliers, dropped dumbbells onto her stomach, and burned her with cigarettes and lighters. One of the burnings was punishment for attempting to call the police. At one point her injuries were so severe that according to one of the boys it took more than an hour for her to crawl downstairs to use the bathroom. They also related that “possibly a hundred different people” knew that Furuta had been imprisoned there, but it is not clear if this means they visited the house at different times while she was imprisoned there, or themselves either raped or abused her. When the boys refused to let her leave, she begged them on several occasions to “kill (her) and get it over with”.

On January 4, 1989, using a loss at mah-jong as a pretext, the four beat her with an iron barbell, poured lighter fluid on her legs, arms, face and stomach, and set her on fire. She died later that day of shock. The four boys claimed that they were not aware of how badly injured she was, and that they believed she had been malingering.

The killers hid her corpse in a 55-gallon drum filled with cement; the perpetrators disposed the drum in a tract of reclaimed land in Koto, Tokyo.

 Arrest and punishment

The boys were arrested and tried as adults; but, because of Japanese handling of crimes committed by juveniles, their identities were sealed by the court. However, a weekly magazine Shūkan Bunshunreported their real names, claiming “Human rights aren’t needed for brutes.”Furuta’s real name and details about her personal life were reported exhaustively in the media. Kamisaku was judged as a sub leader, at least according to the official trial.

The four boys pled guilty to a reduced charge of “committing bodily injury that resulted in death”, rather than murder. Boy A’s parents sold their house for approximately 50 million yen and paid this as compensationto Furuta’s family.

For his participation in the crime, Kamisaku served eight years in a juvenile prisonbefore he was released, in August 1999. In July 2004, he was arrested for assaulting an acquaintance, whom he believed to be luring a girlfriend away from him, and allegedly bragged about his earlier infamy. Kamisaku was sentenced to seven years in prison for the beating.

Junko’s parents were dismayed by the sentences received by their daughter’s killers, and enjoined a civil suit against the parents of the boy in whose home the crimes were committed. When some of the convictions were overturned on the basis of problematic physical evidence (the semen and pubic hair recovered from the body did not match those of the boys who were arrested), the lawyerhandling the civil suit decided there was no case to be made and refused to represent them further. (There is speculation that the evidence may have been contaminated—for example, by unidentified persons who raped Furuta.)

Media

The case drew nationwide attention towards the sentencing and rehabilitation of youthful offenders, especially in the context of youths tried as adults, and became a media sensation.

At least two Japanese-language books have been written about the incident.

An exploitative film, Joshikōsei konkurīto-zume satsujin-jiken (女子高生コンクリート詰め殺人事件, Concrete-Encased High School Girl Murder Case), was made about the incident by director Katsuya Matsumurain 1995. Yujin Kitagawa (later member of music duo Yuzu) played the role of principal culprit in the film.Another film, Concrete (コンクリート, AKA Schoolgirl in Cement), directed by Hiromu Nakamura, was made in 2004 and based on one of the books written about the incident.

In 2006, the Japanese Visual Kei band the GazettE released a song on their album NILcalled “Taion” (Body Temperature); the song is a tribute to the girl.

Waita Uziga‘s “True Modern Stories of the Bizarre” includes the story: Schoolgirl In Concrete, based on the murder case of Junko Furuta.

Yes, people have lost their humanity but killing them won’t bring junko back. If only our government was effective, then perhaps this could have been avoided.

In our world today, everyone will receive proper punishment. But, nowadays, killings are illegal in Japan unless the convicted is a mass murderer. Even then, they would have life imprisonment and this so called life imprisonment lasts only a few decades. I fell extremely bad for the Furuta Junko, but this is what people of law made the jury system came to be. These are all rules that we, Humans, have made up. Since we were partly responsible of making them up, we can’t say anything about it.

i completely agree wid all the others…this is indeed horrible! it really puts us into a grave prespective of how we take our core values…wat use is education to us, if it robs us of our humanity! i can’t even imagine what her parents must have gone through. it nauseating, heart wrenching…. it is indeed unimaginable to even consider that such “NORMAL’ people exists who can be so inhuman to inflict such cruelties on a young innocent girl. something should be done about this, the murderers can’t be scott free…

You know, these stories keep happening all the time, and many lives are just lost with out trace. So I really believe that the problem is in the core of all things, our values are going down the drains and nothing is left of humanity.

What it takes to rebuild? Another (sort of) Noah’s flood, to cleanse everything and make us realize the real values and not the mundane ones.

But sadly, while we wait for the flood to occur people like Furuta die. And we are yet to realize that the flood is within us to unleash. But optimistically I hope we all will, soon.

There’s always gonna be messed up people like these torturers and murderers. There’s no sense in saying that they themselves should be tortured, that is animalistic and brutal and the fact people in this thread consider doing these things to another human is pretty disturbing to me, surely the human capacity for this kind of behaviour is is that precisely which you claim to be abhorrent?

    Oct 14, 2011 @ 18:46:23

:*( – Let me start by saying that Junko’s story has scarred me for life, It just goes to show how cruel this world is; what kind of people we’re surrounded by. If I’m right I believe that Junko’s killers were from her school, and the yazkuza gang member actually had a crush on her that’s why he kidnapped her. I feel no remorse for her killers and I believe they should be put through the same pain as Junko. I know it won’t bring her back… but I think they should feel the type of pain and suffering she went through, – and don’t even make us all start on how corrupt the government is, “those who were put in place to serve and do what’s right” – I just want to ask you? “whom are you serving? what are you doing right? putting killers away for a few years and then releasing them isn’t changing anything it’s making it worse… Your smart enough to get fancy degree’s and go off to law school, but when it comes to choosing wrong from right your clueless.

Large amounts of money might change the way you government official’s think but know this and only this, your time is coming… and I hope that one day you who are to be punished are punished in the most cruelest way possible. I just want to know what was going through those people’s mind’s when they heard the story of Junko and didn’t put those guys behind bars for life, what were you thinking? didn’t you feel anything? “encased in cement” – just imagine for a moment being in a barrel of cement? – yes she may not have been alive at the time but that doesn’t change the fact that she is a human being and just like the rest of us she deserves justice… You’ve made a great mistake by releasing these criminal’s although you might not see it now I really hope you and those criminal’s get what’s coming to you, if not in this life then surely the next; you might not admit it now but you will when the time come’s: “we are all afraid of death”. – We are afraid of what’s coming next, and I hope all those that were involved in the murder of Junko Furuta get’s what’s coming to them – it’s not my place to say but I really hope you perish in hell! For all those people who kept quite about Junko even when they feared they would be killed – for once think of others and not just yourself… no one deserves that kind of pain… I know if I was told to choose between my own life and another persons I would take my own life to save myself from having to make a choice… because I believe that every life is precious and know one has the right to take that life away.

Junko. “I feel so sorry for all the things you missed out on, all the things you never got to see, although it aggravates me less knowing that your suffering has ended… it will never change the fact that you had to endure that suffering all on your own, with no one to turn too :*( – I really hope you’re in heaven right now and I hope your at peace, I know your story has impacted the world so much and finally people are waking up, it’s 2011 now soon to be 2012 I’m feeling sorry for myself that I didn’t come across your story earlier… but I want you to know that we’ll all remember you no matter what… you’ve left me breathless and although this story has scarred me for life, I’m glad I came across it because now i truly know that suffering has no limit’s and that this world is no different to what it was 10 – 20 even 1,000,000 years ago.

    R.I.P. Junko Furuta.

I was in the office when I saw this story on FaceBook. I thought it was so brutal that it had to be someone’s idea of a hoax. I had to stop after reading a couple of paragraphs partly because it was really disturbing and partly because I though it was a joke but I couldn’t stop thinking “What if this were true?” After I came back from office, I googled this story and much to my horror and dismay, I found it to be true. My heart goes out to Junko and I cannot stop thinking how lonely, helpless and desparate she must have felt in those 44 days, the unimaginable pain this young lady had suffered at the hands of those torturers. Even more appalling was the sentence served to the four perpetrators under the pretext they were underaged at the time this heinous crime was committed. None of the four have shown a thought process that justifies them as underaged. To have misled Junko’s parents, to have done everything they did to her and to have covered up the body the way they did indicates a criminal personality of the highest order which isn’t in any way suited to a teenager. We are the idiots for having judged a bunch of lousy sick psychopaths based on law.

I hope and pray that there is nothing like this going on in any part of this world and will not happen in future too but given man’s propensity for violence, I believe that it is a huge ask. May God protect and watch over us, keep us away from harm’s way and avenge Junko’s death by handing out the perpetrators the punishment that they truly deserve, the punishment that we, as men, were not able to serve.

Rest In Peace Junko, it is all over…

I can’t sleep anymore. I came across this about her over Facebook. One of my friends shared it so I decided to read it. As I started at the first 1 day, I began to question if what the hell I was reading could happen. Raped over 400 times? What is that shit? I continued to read down towards the 11 days that have passed. 11 days. You would have thought maybe it would have happened over a longer period of time. My ass. It’s like they just wanted to go straight to the fucked up shit. I also begin to question the morality of life. I get around 20 days have passed. I now seriously begin to question morality. When I tried to around the 11 day mark, it was more like ‘What the fuck is this shit?’ At the 20 mark, it became ‘How the fuck could they not have done anything about it? Aren’t the parents fully aware of what the hell is going on?!’ I then begin to wonder why in the world her parents, although she was forced to tell them that she ran away but was with a friend, didn’t actually bother to call the police or take some real action to get her back. The 30 day mark roles around. I come to the realization that she will go through Christmas (although they don’t celebrate it in Japan everywhere. There was also a date mark so I could tell when what was happening.) not wanting some amazing and extremely expensive object, but to be free. And even if she didn’t celebrate Christmas, New Years was coming up. I roll around the 30 day mark. 30 days of set full on torture and she’s still alive. I was 100% then and there that she was going to suffer New Years. Alone. I also proceeded to slightly throw up in my mouth, to not only know that someone actually survived all of that shit, but to see that 4 guys had the guts to put someone through such a thing, probably laugh at the pain she’s in, then still continue to do such a thing. The last so many days roll around around. What they finally do to her breaks my already broken ALREADY broken heart. I feel like this world has no meaning and I wish to cease to exist. My life was never bad. EVER. But to see that these things, and to this extent actually happened, I don’t feel like the world will be the same. She greets New Years day, alone, body fully mutilated. She is unable to move from the ground, as I am unable to take a breath without feeling my chest grow tight and my stomach groan in pain. Finally, on her final day, she was burned. She didn’t die right away from the burns, but suffered. She suffered in pain and alone. There is really nothing that can compare to this. Later that day, she died. Nothing compares to the torture she was put through.

This was something that was let off for 20 years. 20 years?! Are you kidding me? I would have shot all of them on the spot and took a life sentence for what they did. That really is full on impulse, but it was my first thought. They don’t deserve to live if that’s what they did to a girl, who probably had nothing to do with them in any form or way. I already catch that laws were probably different back then, and that they were minors, but minor or not, they don’t deserve to exist, and never did. The parents of one of the 4 guys were self absorbed and selfish. They may have no physically done anything or had any legit contact with her, but indirectly, they were allowing what was happening to go on. Justice was never served all the way, and will never be. Someday, those 4 men will get exactly what they deserve. No one should be tormented like this. And those who do the tormenting will have their portion of torture happen to them.
R.I.P. Furuta Junko ❤ We all love you.
